Summary/Abstract: In forensic psychiatry, crime is common and occurs when a person has committed a crime and is being evaluated or treated within the legal and psychiatric system. The role of forensic psychiatrists is to work with these individuals over a long period of time by assessing their mental state, assessing their competence to stand trial, determining the level of responsibility, and considering the need for treatment of patients, often in psychiatric hospitals or prisons. This suggests that there is a link between mental factors and criminal behavior. The forensic structure in the context of security measures refers to the legal and medical procedures that relate to persons who cause mental work in a state of distress or significant pressure or calculation due to mental illness, temporary mental disorder, mental retardation, or alcohol or drug addiction. Forensic mental health centers are specialized institutions that provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals with mental disorders who are in contact with the justice system. In this paper, our primary goal is to simultaneously improve the mental health of patients and protect public safety. The purpose of this paper is to review published scientific papers that analyze the role, organization, and efficiency of forensic mental health centers, as well as their benefits for patients and the wider community. The analysis of the available literature shows that forensic centers significantly contribute to reducing recidivism, improving clinical outcomes, and facilitating the social reintegration of patients, rehabilitation, and maintaining public safety.
