REPRESENTATION OF POST-WAR SOCIETY IN HANS LEBERT'S STORY „DAS SCHIFF IM GEBIRGE“ BASED ON PIERRE BOURDIEU'S CONCEPTS OF THE SOCIAL FIELD, HABITUS AND CAPITAL

Summary/Abstract: The article examines the representation of post-war society in Hans Lebert's story "Das Schiff im Gebirge" (1993) using the socio-analysis of literary texts by Pierre Bourdieu. Bourdieu's socioanalysis is based on his three concepts of the field, habitus and capital. These three concepts are explained in the theoretical part of the study from Bourdieu's perspective in order to provide a theoretical basis for the analytical part of the contribution. In the analytical part of the article, the genesis and hysteresis of the habitus of the protagonist Erdmann is presented. In doing so, it sheds light on how his individual dispositions manifest themselves and how they come into conflict with the structures of the social fields of the post-war period. The town and the mountain village of Lur are then considered as social fields that are regulated by their own laws and at the same time are considered sub-areas of the social space of the post-war period. Other characters from the story, the mother, Lilli and the stranger, are always examined in connection with Erdmann's habitus and his position in the respective fields. The capital of Erdmann and the secondary characters is examined in its fourfold manifestations as economic, social, cultural and symbolic capital, with a focus on the devaluation of each form in the post-war period. The aim of the article is to show, through the application of Bourdieu's socio-analysis, how Lebert's narrative reproduces and represents the structure of the social world by illuminating the interplay of Bourdieu's concepts within the social fields.
