The Life of St. John Climacus in the version of Hieromonk Anastasius Pustynnik (copy in the manuscript of the National Library of Russia. F. 550. Q.I.572)

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes and publishes the text of the Life of St. John Climacus based on the manuscript of the collection Q.I.572 of the National Library of Russia. The manuscript was created in Middle Bulgarian by the Moldavian scribe Anastasius in 1539. The main source of the compilation was the text of the Tarnovo translation of the Life of St. John, an additional source was the text of the Athonite translation. Textual signs of the new version of the Life are revealed. Linguistic analysis of the text is carried out, scribal errors are analyzed. Lexemes that have not yet been recorded in the historical lexicography of the Bulgarian and Russian languages are noted: испытаньнѣ, неизнемогыи, несъвѣдѣтельно, обръщениѥ, обѹрениѥ, оскѹжданиѥ, прѣждеѹморити, себѣвѣровавыи, себѣготовыи, съпротивобожьныи. Lexemes that testify to the editorial activity of the Moldavian scribe are revealed: книжьныи (instead of окрѹгънии), се же (instead of таже) and гръдость (instead of гръдыни). Observations on the text of the Ladder and the Life of St. John Climacus in Q.I.572 have shown that in the Slavonic-Moldavian writing of the sixteenth century, compilation as a method of the scribe’s work took place not only in the compilation of ascetic collections, but also in the copying of one literary monument.
