Summary/Abstract: The Athanasian homily comprises a paschal discourse delivered during the Feast of the Resurrection, delivered to neophytes or the recently baptized and catechumens. Although very brief, it contains a rich symbolism of the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and its effect on those who are baptized. In the Sacrament of Baptism, catechumens experience the sacramental death and resurrection with Christ. The Sacrament of Baptism is followed by the Sacrament of Chrismation, which imparts to them the charisms of the Holy Spirit, after which they are called to the Eucharistic supper, to partake of “solid food” – the Body and Blood of Christ. Through these three Sacraments of initiation, catechumens are incorporated into the Body of the Church.
