Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in the implementation of a project for various STEM competences called „EDU-ARCTIC – an innovative educational program attracting young people to natural sciences and polar research”. A brief description of the IGF PAS, the essence of the pilot study, substantive elements of the proper project as well as the process and results of the evaluation were presented. A few recommendations for processing similar initiatives that emerged as a result of the post-project analysis were shown. Following factors were indicated as important: the significance of defining the leading topic of the project i.e. the Arctic, the impact of the beliefs that educators and implementers have about STEM competences on students’ achievements, the importance of choosing the appropriate partner institutions and the need to consult parents as an important source of support in development of competencies.
