Historical Memory and Patriotism in Contemporary Bulgarian Education

Summary/Abstract: The article examines the specifics of history education and its connection with historical memory and patriotism in the Bulgarian school. The main objective is to show the state’s role in developing patriotic education in our country. The main points are the problems in the legal framework, the content of the curricula and textbooks, and the attitude toward monuments. The topicality of the topic is caused by the public interest in the forms and ways of teaching historical memory. The methods for achieving correct results are using an interdisciplinary approach to analysis, evaluation, and summaries of the indicated questions. All this reveals the characteristic features of the past of the homeland in the minds of young Bulgarians.
