Summary/Abstract: The European School, a group of artists active in Budapest between 1945 and 1948, was one of the most important artistic circles in Hungarian culture after World War II. The paper presents some excerpts from the correspondence between Győző Határ (1914–2006), a writer and philosopher who had emigrated to London, and Árpád Mezei (1902–1998), a psychologist and art critic, who was one of the leaders of the European School. Mezei later settled in the United States with his family in 1974. Győző Határ sought the support of Árpád Mezei and his wife, Éva Erdély, for his articles on the European School. Their correspondence contains a number of valuable details and original viewpoints on the history of Hungarian avant-garde literature and visual arts.
