Summary/Abstract: This study examines the concept of jihad, focusing primarily on its foundational sources in the Qur’an and the Prophetic tradition. The research delineates the semantic development of jihad from its lexical roots to its specialized terminological meaning within the Islamic revelatory context. It also investigates the practical application and operationalization of jihad during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, analyzing its objectives, methodologies, and outcomes. The paper is structured into an introduction, two principal analytical sections, and a conclusion. The introduction outlines the research framework, while the first section provides a thorough semantic analysis of the root *j-hd* and its derivatives in both the Meccan and Medinan periods of revelation. The second section explores the enactment of jihad, examining its historical context and theological objectives. The conclusion synthesizes these findings to propose a holistic understanding of classical jihad.
