Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the process of the Annexation of the Partido de Nicoya to Costa Rica and its subsequent incorporation into the national imaginary. It examines the political, economic, and social conditions that led the towns of Nicoya and Santa Cruz to seek Costa Rican protection in 1824, as well as the role of the Federal Congress in confirming the union. The study demonstrates how Nicaraguan instability, commercial networks, and the search for greater security influenced the decision. It argues that the Annexation was a complex and gradual process whose contemporary reinterpretation has formed a significant foundational narrative for Costa Rica.
