Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the contemporary art museum as an anthropological mirror of modern society – a space in which death, violence and destruction are transformed into aesthetic and cultural objects of contemplation. The study analyzes how the museum functions as a form of “secularized temple,” where society observes its own mortality through a distanced and intellectualized mode of perception. The theoretical framework draws on the ideas of thinkers such as Michel Foucault, Jean Baudrillard, Eva Illouz, Brian Massumi and Bernard Stiegler, enabling an interpretation of the museum as a space of disciplined perception, simulation and affect economy. Through ethnographic observations conducted in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Strasbourg (MAMCS), including visits with children and university students, the paper explores how the museum institution organizes a social and emotional spectacle in which horror and violence are transformed into safe aesthetic representations. Particular attention is given to the concept of “ready destroyed” in contemporary art, where destruction and death are already embedded within the artistic object itself. The paper also discusses the apocalyptic motif in contemporary art and its institutionalization in Western cultural contexts, as well as its specific manifestations in Bulgaria, where it often appears as an imitation of the Western avant-garde. The study concludes by reflecting on the possibility of rethinking the museum – from a space of aestheticized apathy to a place of shared living experience and the restoration of human sensitivity.
