Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the development of cultural management from the early 20th century, with a focus on the influence of industrialization and mass culture. It criticizes the commercialization of art and the impact of neoliberalism, which reduces public funding and forces cultural organizations to rely on private sponsors. Lavern warns of the risks posed by globalization and digital capitalism, which reduce cultural diversity to folklore and commercialize creative processes. She references thinkers such as Bernard Stiegler and emphasizes the need for a „new humane social pact“ that restores the role of art as a moral and ethical regulator in society.
