„The manipulator in the mask of a victim?” An analysis of the psychosocial functioning of Jamie Miller’s fictional protagonist according to the I-Level Classification

Summary/Abstract: This article presents a case study of the fictional character Jamie Miller from the third episode of the TV series Adolescence (2025, Netflix), analysed using the I-Level Classification (ILC) system. which is used to diagnose the level of interpersonal maturity. The analysis is based on Jamie's conversation with a forensic psychologist and indicates that he functions at the third level of the ILC, specifically within the manipulator (pragmatist) subtype. The article also attempts to place the analysis in a broader cultural context and considers the educational and diagnostic value of analysing fictional narratives. The article concludes with a reflection on the influence of contemporary cultural patterns - including toxic masculinity - on the formation of immature and defensive interpersonal attitudes in adolescents. Artykuł stanowi studium przypadku fikcyjnej postaci Jamiego Millera z trzeciego odcinka serialu Adolescence (Netflix, 2025), analizowanej z wykorzystaniem systemu diagnostycznego I-Level Classification (ILC), służącego do diagnozowania poziomu dojrzałości interpersonalnej. Analiza opiera się na rozmowie Jamiego z psycholożką sądową i wskazuje na jego funkcjonowanie na poziomie trzecim ILC, w szczególności w ramach podtypu manipulatora (pragmatyka). W artykule podjęto także próbę osadzenia analizy w szerszym kontekście kulturowym oraz rozważono wartość dydaktyczną i diagnostyczną analizy narracji fikcyjnych. Artykuł kończy się refleksją nad wpływem współczesnych wzorców kulturowych – w tym toksycznej męskości – na kształtowanie się niedojrzałych i defensywnych postaw interpersonalnych u adolescentów.
