Summary/Abstract: The article examines Józef Elsner’s Śpiew pożegnania [Song of Farewell], a work until recently unknown, composed for the farewell benefit performance of the composer’s wife, Karolina Elsner, prima donna of the Warsaw stage, who retired from public performance in 1822. The discovery of a piano source for the work, issued as a supplement to the weekly Warszawianin, has made it possible to identify a fragmentary autograph source preserved together with the score of the Divertissement for Ofiara Abrahama [Abraham’s sacrifice]. Together with surviving accounts of the benefit performance, these discoveries support the hypothesis that the ballet work in question should be associated with the same event.
