Summary/Abstract: For the Romanian public—and not only for the general audience—the Herder Prizes remain both legendary and largely unknown. In most conversations, they are recalled only vaguely, through remarks such as: “Ana Blandiana / Mircea Dinescu received it, and... that poet.” Yet the Herder Prizes honored 36 Romanian figures from a wide range of fields in the humanities and the arts, among a total of 298 distinguished personalities from Central and Southeastern Europe, between 1965 and 2006. It was precisely this little-known legacy that inspired the exhibition organized by the Eugen Todoran Central University Library, in collaboration with the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg, held between 3 March and 24 April 2026.
