Summary/Abstract: The following analysis examines Joachim Wittstock’s latest novel "Das erfuhr ich unter Menschen" through Stefano Ercolino’s theoretical framework of the maximalist novel. Applying Ercolino’s ten defining features of maximalist fiction—length, encyclopedic mode, dissonant chorality, diegetic exuberance, completeness, narratorial omniscience, paranoid imagination, intersemioticity, ethical commitment, and hybrid realism—the study investigates how these characteristics manifest within the novel. Thus, the analysis reveals the multilayered structure, narrative density, and formal complexity that position Joachim Wittstock’s work within a maximalist aesthetic.
