Summary/Abstract: Oral history is one stage of research, the other is the study of archival materials to create a picture of the practice of creative and managerial workers in Slovak theatre. It is ideal if they can be combined. Štefan Fejko (1949) is the oldest and longest-serving theatre dramaturge. Before August 1968, his generation probably had different ideas about the future than those who lived in their country for the following two decades. Many of the respondent's answers, based on long-term experience at the State Theatre in Košice (today the National Theatre), can be generalized to similar situations in other cultural institutions.
