Summary/Abstract: The essay deals presents the the activity of the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP) in Africa. This continent represents a strategic area for the EU for both security and economic matters. As it was proved during the last decades, conflicts in Africa spread easily and their prevention has become a priority for for the European Defense Strategy. The high number of missions on the African continent prove that EU wants to stabilize this continent. The case of DR Congo is important because it’s one of the biggest countries in Africa and it’s geo-political situation, it’s relation with neighbour countries and internal disorder makes DR Congo a high factor of instability on the entire continent. The high number of ESDP in DR Congo are relevant for highlighting the importance of DR Congo. EU doesn’t need conflicts, failed states (a good source for terrorist organizations), political and social disorder in it’s vicinity.
