Summary/Abstract: This article explores the role of the piano accompanist as a co-interpreter in both vocal and instrumental repertoire, moving beyond the traditional view of accompaniment as merely a supportive function. It examines the functional dimensions of pianistic collaboration, including harmonic support, rhythmic coordination, and structural guidance, while also foregrounding its expressive contribution to phrasing, dynamics, agogic nuance, and musical character. The study highlights the specific demands of instrumental accompaniment, defined by timbral balance and technical interaction, as well as those of vocal accompaniment, shaped by text, breathing, and diction. By focusing on shared interpretative responsibility, the paper argues that the contemporary piano accompanist plays an essential role in the creation of musical meaning and should be regarded as an equal artistic partner in performance.
