CON IL REGISTRO GIUSTO. ADVANCING THE TEACHING OF LINGUISTIC REGISTER WITH CHATGPT THROUGH AN ITALIAN CASE STUDY

Summary/Abstract: Recent advancements in large language models have revolutionised the automation of numerous writing-related tasks, including punctuation and grammatical corrections. These tools aid basic editing; however, achieving proficiency in textual editing and genre comprehension requires extensive student engagement and analytical practice. This paper proposes the use of ChatGPT to create variations of a sample text in Italian, designed to assist students in identifying and understanding shifts in linguistic register while keeping the discussion topic consistent. This approach aims to bolster key textual competencies crucial for both composing and interpreting texts in any language. Utilising ChatGPT allows educators to generate high-quality, authentic instructional materials, thus enhancing the efficiency of teaching linguistic and discursive skills.
