Summary/Abstract: The article examines the possibilities for presenting the Bulgarian traditional dance in the context of contemporary street art. The study aims to explore new opportunities for popularising folklore heritage by combining Bulgarian folk choreography with the principles of the flash mob. The analysis is based on four flashmob initiatives of the Nashentsi Bulgarian Folk Dance Club from Ruse city (2012–2025) – from an assignment for television to an independent international performance, as a bridge between the cultures of two countries. An ethnographic and interpretive approach is used to study the adaptation of the folk choreography to an urban environment. The emphasis is on the relationship between tradition and modernity, as well as on the social role of folklore outside performance spaces. By analysing the choice of repertoire, location and compositional logic, the thesis that the flashmob is an effective means of communication and a form of cultural mediation is substantiated. The examples reveal that the folk dance can be relevant and impactful when it is presented with respect to our folklore aesthetics.
