Summary/Abstract: The article explores the role of the language of schooling (JES) in the comprehension of task instructions by students with migration experience (UDM) who are learning Polish as a second language. The central focus is a set of 27 operational verbs most frequently used in educational and exam-related tasks in Polish schools. A reconnaissance study conducted among 50 students in grades 4-8 of primary schools revealed a clear correlation between the length of time spent in the Polish education system and the level of understanding of these verbs. The practical section presents a range of methodological proposals designed to introduce and reinforce the comprehension of operational verbs during Polish as a second language lessons. The article is application-oriented and aims to support teachers working with multilingual students at the early stages of learning the language of schooling.
