Summary/Abstract: This essay traces the evolution of the Romanian Parliament across four distinct eras, highlighting how the institution has reflected and shaped national political culture. Beginning with the post-1866 constitutional order and the limited but ceremonious parliament of the late 19th century, it follows the interwar explosion of democratic energy, the hollow unanimity of the Communist period, and the turbulent post-1989 transition to contemporary politics. Through anecdotes, satirical references and key legislative milestones, it shows how the Romanian legislature has oscillated between moments of high principle and episodes of moral decline and populist spectacle. The study concludes that the Parliament remains a mirror of broader societal transformations and that its legitimacy depends on renewed ethical standards and civic engagement.
