Associations for Friendship with Foreign Countries – Instruments for the Implementation of Cultural Diplomacy or Bearers of Specific Cultural Identity (Observations on “Friends of France – Razgrad”)

Summary/Abstract: In the context of globalisation and the rapid development of information technologies, the topic of cultural diplomacy and interactions between different cultural identities is gaining increasing relevance. Associations for friendship with foreign countries play a key role in this process, acting as informal mediators of cultural diplomacy and bearers of specific cultural identities. This paper examines the activities of the NGO “Friends of France – Razgrad”, established in 2017 as the successor to the “Francophones” section of the “World Partnership for Peace” association, and its relations with the Twinning Committee in Châlons-en-Champagne, France. The aim is to examine such associations as bridges between nations and carriers of cultural identity. An interdisciplinary approach is applied, including field observation, the descriptive-analytical method, synthesis, and historical retrospection.
