Trumpism as an illiberal reaction to globalization

Summary/Abstract: We are witnessing an attack against political modernity. Collective identity values such as faith, dignity, the meaning of life, and the traditional values of family and nation — which should remain exclusively within private life — are being brought into the public sphere. This attack is called de-secularization, and it has occurred before in history under the name of political religions such asNazism, fascism, and communism. Trumpism and MAGA, as well as other populist,sovereigntist, illiberal movements, are forms of fascism and authoritarianism. The hallmark of fascist movements is the identification of enemies of the group,community, class, race, or nation. For MAGA, Woke ideology is such an enemy,presented as a threat in Donald Trump’s electoral campaign.
