Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to discuss the potentials of illness and disability in Maria Reimann’s prose Nie przywitam się z państwem na ulicy (I Will Not Greet You in the Street). The author presents the key issues within the field of illness discourse and disability studies, including the phenomenon of infantilization that affects experiences of illness and disability. The subsequent analysis is based on the potentials identified by Mateusz Szubert in the article Illness Discourse – Research Perspectives, namely the narrative, cognitive, therapeutic, and transgressive potentials. This set is further expanded by the author with additional potentials: emancipatory and dialogical. The object and method of description are also broadened, through Reimann’s research perspective, to include autoethnography, its significance, and its influence on the form of literary texts.
