Summary/Abstract: The article presents two works, one of which is a novel and at the same time a haiku (Imperium chmur [The Empire of Clouds] by Jacek Dukaj), while the other is a collection of poems designated as a novel in the subtitle (Szczelinami. Powieść [Through the Cracks. A Novel] by Wit Szostak). Both these experiments put forward a number of questions about today’s status of poetry and verse. Among others they ask what the poetic idiom is, whether the boundary between verse and prose is still relevant, what the status of fiction in verse is, and how the subject, construction and stylistic „falsification” should be treated. The author analyzes both examples in detail, pointing out that each of the two writers uses the „code of poetry” in a different manner, but both of them „break” it in some way, i.e. they uncover, decipher and, partly, demystify it.
