Summary/Abstract: This study examines the complex identity formation of Doro in Ulrike Draesner's novel Die Verwandelten as a nuanced representation of post-war generational experiences at the intersection of migration, cultural hybridity, and transgenerational trauma. Through an analysis of linguistic and narrative strategies, the research explores how Doro constructs a self-determined identity by navigating multiple cultural contexts and leveraging multilingualism as a transformative resource. Doro emerges as a paradigmatic figure embodying the intricate processes of identity negotiation, revealing how individual identity is a dynamic negotiation shaped by familial histories and personal agency. By examining the mechanisms of intergenerational trauma transmission and the creative potential of cultural hybridity, the study illuminates broader societal dynamics of belonging and self-representation.
