The legislative provisions on forced residence until the first regulation of the communist system

Summary/Abstract: During the dictatorship of Carol II of Romania and Ion Antonescu’s dictatorial regime, the type of activities and/or actions bringing along the administrative sanction of forced/compulsory residence was very diverse: the singing of arias while walking in groups, travelling by car, by train or any other type of means of transport that could be interpreted as expressing certain political ideas; the printing and multiplication in any way as well as the distribution of manuscripts, sketches and drawings that might include some sort of encouragements for acting or expressing a political idea, travelling by train without authorization, presentation of fake news and tendentious information; trespassing the border, espionage, communist activities, alcoholism, adultery, discussions on topics as internal and external policy. Gradually, after the installation of the communist dictatorship, the administrative measure of the forced residence gained new valences. It was no longer used to punish a personal deed but instead it was used for multiples subjects, relying on the collective responsibility of groups of people along with their family members, categories of people considered a threat to the new political system (landowners, well-to-do peasants, people living near the Yugoslavian border, inhabitants of large cities from all social categories).
