Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is to draw the attention of Polish historiansto the importance of the resources of the Latvian State Archive in Riga forresearch into the history of repressions targeting Poles in the Soviet Union. This facility holds in its collections materials concerning the persecutionin the USSR of persons born on the territory of present-day Latvia. Asan example, use has been made of case files documenting investigationsconducted by the NKVD against Poles – serving officers of the RedArmy – during the Great Purge. The abundance of archival materialsrelating to this professional group allows us to conclude that the LatvianState Archive is a potentially valuable location for studying the courseof repressions directed against Poles in the USSR, especially at a time whenthe resources of Russian archives are virtually inaccessible.
