Summary/Abstract: This article examines dialectal lexical items denoting human character traits as attested in Volume I (A–D) of the Ideographic Dialect Dictionary of the Bulgarian Language. Adopting an ideographic approach, the material is systematized into semantic groups comprising positively evaluative, negatively evaluative and ambivalent nominations. The analysis demonstrates that dialectal vocabulary serves not only as a means of naming personal characteristics but also as a repository of culturally and socially conditioned evaluative models. Special attention is given to ambivalent lexical items whose interpretation depends on context, as well as to figurative nominations reflecting the rich imagery of folk linguistic creativity. The study highlights the effectiveness of ideographic classification for a more comprehensive understanding of dialectal lexical diversity and its role in shaping the linguistic representation of the human character.
