Summary/Abstract: In this discussion, we treat the relation between the status of a constituent in the information structure of the utterance and the elision as a phonetic change in the word. There are different factors involved in the process of elision: phonetic, morphonological, syntactic, etc. Here we represent the information structure of the sentence as one of the main conditions that lead to the loss of sounds. We argue that the elision of sounds appears only when a (phonological) word is topicalised.
