Examples Of Property Purchase-Sale In Manisa According To Court Registers

Summary/Abstract: In the Ottoman Empire, qadı are the most competent persons in carrying out judicial, administrative and municipal services in district. All transactions related to these followed-up works have been registered and formalized in the court registry books through clerks. In addition, in the district, kadi served as a notary public in the purchase and sale of property. Although property purchase and sale transactions were recorded in the regisry books under the name of hüccet, purchase and sale transactions were carried out quite intensively in the Ottoman cities. Property purchases and sales were first included in the records in the form of a house, a shop, a vineyard/garden, an inn, a mill. XVII. in the first half of the century, the subject of the study is how property purchases and sales in Manisa, which is the sanjak of the prince, are reflected in the court registers. In the study, samples of buying and selling offenses from the Manisa court registers were examined and sales of houses, vineyards/gardens, fields, shops and mills in Manisa city were evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, it was tried to reveal the situations affecting the properties and values of properties in the city, by whom and by what procedures the purchase and sale transactions were made. Thus XVII. in the first half of the century, property purchase and sale records in the city of Manisa and what it offers us about Manisa were taken into account.
