Summary/Abstract: Clinical social work, a specialized field of practice, has undergone significant changes over time. Social workers, focusing on enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, groups, and communities, perform various clinical interventions. These interventions are carried out at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, utilizing the person-in-environment perspective. Various clinical applications exist within these dimensions. Although micro and mezzo-level practices are more prevalent, macro practices play a key role in social work. In these fields of practice, the dominant role of clinical social workers is providing counseling services. In this review, clinical social work practices at different levels are explained, and the competencies required of clinical social workers are discussed. These competencies are examined as core competencies and counseling competencies. Given that the dominant role in practice is counseling, clinical social workers must possess and further develop counseling competencies. This review is significant for understanding the conceptual ambiguities, practices, and professional competencies related to clinical social work.
