The Relationship between Exports, Imports, and Industrial Production: The Case of Türkiye

Summary/Abstract: This study aims to analyze the relationship between industrial production and foreign trade in Turkey. Time series analysis were employed, and all statistical procedures were conducted using the Eviews 8 software. Initially, the stationarity of the variables was tested using the unit root test. Subsequently, the optimal lag length was determined. In the next stage, the Johansen cointegration test was applied to examine the long term relationship between industrial production and foreign trade. The Granger Causality Test was utilized to identify the direction and characteristics of the relationships between the variables. The estimation of long term coefficients was conducted through the FMOLS method. Additionally, diagnostic tests were applied to assess the reliability of the research model. The findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between industrial production and foreign trade in Turkey, both in the short and long term. These results suggest that industrial production influences foreign trade, while foreign trade has the potential to enhance industrial production.
