Summary/Abstract: DAVET – The Religious Studies Database is an academic information network providing open-access links to academic works in the field of religious studies, such as manuscripts, books, theses, articles and conference papers. Development began in 2017 with project support from Sivas Cumhuriyet University. As part of the project, the ISNAD Citation System was developed in 2018. ISNAD is an academic writing and citation system developed in Turkish. Translated into English, Arabic and Persian, ISNAD is currently used by 64 institutions and 184 peer-reviewed journals as of June 2026. DAVET aims to bring together and highlight the scientific output in the field of theology produced in Turkey under a single umbrella. The database provides services in eight languages: Turkish, Azerbaijani, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Turkmen, English and Arabic. As of June 2026, 623,281 works are registered: the main categories include 360,768 articles, 90,805 books and 70,893 theses. DAVET features a modular search infrastructure tailored to works, theses, articles, journals, authors and concepts. The “Theologians” page, which brings together the CVs, publications and citation data of 5,187 theology academics working in Turkey, makes it easier for researchers to systematically discover each other’s work. The “Journals” page, which contains the basic data of 98,691 national and international peer-reviewed journals, provides easy access to the journals’ index and publication details. The "Theses" page contains data on theses on the subject of ‘religion’ held in the archives of the Higher Education Council (YÖK) National Thesis Centre, as well as theses prepared abroad, and the full texts of those available via open access. From a technical perspective, DAVET is built on a Django-based RESTful API, an Elasticsearch-powered full-text search engine and a modern user interface. The system supports advanced information access functions such as synonym expansion, multialphabetic transliteration (Cyrillic–Latin–Arabic), real-time citation integration with OpenAlex, and metadata sharing via the OAI-PMH protocol.
