Anxiety in Parents as a Challenge to Effective Parenting

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes anxiety as a contemporary factor associated with parental dysfunction and examines opportunities for enhancing parental effectiveness through socio-pedagogical work. The concept of “effective parenting” is explored through a comparison with related concepts, and its main characteristics are outlined. Theoretical interpretations of anxiety are presented, and its impact on the child and family relationships is analyzed. Socio-pedagogical approaches for reducing anxiety and developing parental competencies are also discussed. The analysis concludes that anxiety is a persistent phenomenon in contemporary life and, in the absence of adequate support, may become a factor contributing to dysfunctional parenting. Prevention and early intervention through educational, group, and counseling programs are of key importance for the development of emotionally stable and effective parenting.
