Fragmentation of the Political System in Bulgaria. Analysis of the Causes and Consequences of the Deepening Crisis of Legitimacy of Political Parties after 2021

Summary/Abstract: Frequent early elections are a clear indicator of a political crisis, but also of a crisis of trust in democratic institutions and the legitimacy of parties. In this article, the author makes an attempt to analyze the reasons for these processes, which are related to numerous factors. Without claiming to be exhaustive, he points out as the main ones not only the transition from an authoritarian to a democratic regime of government, but also the choice of the electoral system itself, socio-economic problems, ideological and cultural differences, preferences for geopolitical orientation, anthropological overlays, as well as the specific model of factionalization of parties in our country.
