Summary/Abstract: In this article, we aim to inventory various forms of the human condition – as potential hypotheses about the existence of the post-historical human – starting from a series of Mircea Eliade’s prose works (Les trois Grâces, Youth Without Youth, Dayan). Living under the shadow of an imminent Apocalypse, the characters in these narratives (which often include science fiction elements) imagine different solutions to this radical mutation of the human species. This mutation either refutes the idea of eternal return or confirms it. In these stories, various scientific elements or scenarios are approached through the lens of the hermeneutics of trust, which Paul Ricoeur considered representative of an author like Mircea Eliade.
