Summary/Abstract: Presenting the Romanian translation of the 15th Homily from the 4th-century Syriac Book of Steps (Liber Graduum), Hierodeacon Filothei Vîlcu explores the patristic origins of matrimony and carnal desire. The introductory study highlights the anonymous author's dynamic pneumatology and his distinction between the "just," who follow basic commandments, and the "perfect," who strictly embrace celibacy. According to the homily, sexual desire emerged only after Adam and Eve's tragic fall, while virginity represents the original angelic state. Ultimately, this document provides invaluable insights into early Mesopotamian ascetic theology and the elevation of the human spirit.
