Summary/Abstract: This study attempts to answer the question of which “Barcarolle” G. P. Stamatov refers to in his story “Little Sodom”. The writer does not specify whose authorship the work is, whether because he believes the work is particularly popular, or because he leaves the possibility of free interpretation in the reader’s mind. The symbolic function of the musical work in the text is undeniable, but the lack of identification provokes the researcher to search for the probable melody. In the study, I focus on three main hypotheses related to the names of the composers who created the “Barcarolles”: Offenbach, Schubert and P. I. Tchaikovsky. The latter’s work seems to me the most likely version, because Tchaikovsky is one of George P. Stamatov’s favorite composers, and because the sound of his “Barcarolle” fits most harmoniously as a musical background in the story.
