Summary/Abstract: The article explores the problem of the urban nocturne in Bulgarian poetry of the early 20th century. Special attention is given to Ivan Radoslavov’s genre-defining article “The City” as a critical matrix introducing the idea of the Bulgarian urban nocturne and the possibility of constructing its semantic and stylistic models. The study examines poems by Dimitar Boyadzhiev, Dimcho Debelyanov, and Nikolay Liliev through their variable inclusion in a genre-stylistic paradigm consisting of nocturnal-urban thematizations and their musical correspondences with intertextual effects. The relevance of the genre during this period reveals important developmental tendencies in Bulgarian literary evolution.
