On the nature of social and environmental challenges to sustainable tourism development

Summary/Abstract: In time, sustainable tourism is a leading concept in the development of the modern tourism industry, presupposing the achievement of a balance between economic growth, protection of the natural environment and preservation of cultural heritage. In the spirit of the conventions of the present time, the paper examines principled statements regarding social and environmental challenges faced by the tourism sector. Additional attention is paid to the influence of new factors such as digitalization and global crises. In conclusion, the need for an integrated strategic approach is emphasized in order to ensure the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of tourism.
