Migratory movements in Albania after 1990. Case study Tirana

Summary/Abstract: Migration patterns are very complex and extremely widespread. During different periods we have encountered temporary or circular migrations as well as permanent migrations, and they reflect a pattern of labor force movement, both national and international. Migration remains a natural and inevitable phenomenon, but the path towards regular migration for employment reasons is not easy. Most migrations in Albania are linked to a series of internal and external factors. The majority of Albanian emigrants, outside Albania, are linked in search of employment, with the aim of building a more secure future. Similarly, internal migratory movements from rural areas to urban centers after the 90s have undergone a wide and continuous expansion, due to the impossibility of the economic and social conditions offered by their area and which force them to settle in urban centers. • In this paper, we will focus mainly on the current problems that the city of Tirana, the capital of Albania, is facing, mainly caused by the mass movements of the population that flooded from different areas and surroundings of Albania during the 90s and onwards. • We have mainly concentrated on the grouping of inhabitants arriving from Albania's Northern and Southern areas who have settled in Bathore, Baldushk, Sauk, Dajt, Selite, and Farke. Among the main problems that have been addressed in this work, we can mention: a. Reasons for moving; b. Problems of adaptation in the new environment (confrontation with the new mentality of the Capital City, employment, education, etc.); c. Cohabitation with the natives (found there, including marital and social relations, etc.)
