Summary/Abstract: The topic we propose explores the response of the Romanian Communist Party to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of April 1986, with a focus on decision-making mechanisms and information control. Drawing on archival documents from party meetings, the study highlights how Romanian leaders managed the crisis and controlled the circulation of information, while integrating the accident into an already existing diplomatic discourse on nuclear risk and disarmament that characterized Romanian foreign policy in the 1980s.
