Summary/Abstract: This article brings to a discussion the issues on EU’s public expenditure within the context of the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027, in particular budgetary expenditure on humanitarian aid. High level review is conducted with focus on the the initial proposal for the EU's long-term budget and subsequent adjustments in light of geopolitical events and emerging crises. An increase in humanitarian and defense spending is seen, which in turn poses additional challenges for the EU budget and the Green deal priorities.
