Summary/Abstract: This paper explains the facts related to the process of literacy and the development of primary education of the population in the settlement of Suha near Zivinice in the period from 1945 to 1977. The first phase of literacy took place from 1945 to 1947 in the form of courses in which people of different ages learned to read and write. In the second phase, after 1947, organized primary education began in the family house of Salka Terzic, which is recorded as the first four-grade primary school in the village and its wider area. In the third phase, from 1954, a school building with two classrooms and apartments for teachers on the upper floor was constructed. In the fourth phase, in 1977, a new modern school with four classrooms was built. The paper analyzes the development of education in the first three phases, the increase in the number of students and the need for additional classrooms, as well as the issue of accommodation for teachers. With the increase in the number of school-age children in the village, the need for new classrooms also arose. One classroom was arranged in the village reading room, while the new mekteb was used as a classroom for the fourth grade. The paper also addresses other challenges that accompanied the development of primary education, such as the travel of students from the fifth to the eighth grade to eight-year primary schools in nearby places: Zivinice, Oskova, Morancani, Kiseljak and Serici. A difficult period for both teachers and students is described, marked by the absence of electricity and water, inadequate heating, outdoor sanitary facilities, and the lack of a sports hall.
