Summary/Abstract: During the Ottoman period, Tuzla gradually developed into a significant carsija (urban marketplace) and a political, economic, religious, and cultural center of the region of northeastern Bosnia. Craftsmanship and the local population played an important role in this development, as their work significantly contributed to the growth of the city, given that until the arrival of the Austro-Hungarian administration in Tuzla there was no presence of foreign capital or foreign craftsmen. This paper aims to present the historical context of the development of craftsmanship in Tuzla during the final decades of Ottoman rule, as well as to preserve the memory of Tuzla’s craftsmen from this period, whose names are recorded in the 1851 census.
