Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the implementation of regional education, a crucial component of socio-cultural identity. The aim of the study is to initiate a discussion on the role of regional education in modern schools and to present a segment of preliminary research concerning students' declared knowledge about their region. The study employed the diagnostic survey method with a questionnaire completed by eighth-grade students from four schools in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The research sought to answer the following questions: What is the level of students' knowledge about the history, culture, and traditions of their region? What are the sources of this knowledge? What topics does their regional knowledge cover? The survey results indicate that schools are not currently a significant source of cultural models for students. This may suggest an insufficient educational offer in the area of regional content, which could otherwise support both learning about and promoting one's own region. From the perspective of school activities, therefore, incorporating the framework of regional education emerges as an urgent need.
