Summary/Abstract: The Public Ministry occupies a central place in the architecture of the Romanian judicial system, and understanding its current status and functions requires an analysis of the institution's historical evolution. This study follows the main stages of the formation and transformation of the Public Ministry in Romania, from the first regulations of the Organic Regulations period to its reconstruction in the post-1989 democratic context. The analysis highlights the influence of European legal models on the organization of the Public Ministry, the role of this institution in consolidating the modern Romanian state, as well as the distortions it suffered during the communist regime. At the same time, the article emphasizes that the changes introduced after 1989 aimed to reposition the Public Ministry within the framework of the rule of law, as an institution tasked with defending legality, the general interests of society, and the fundamental rights of citizens.
