Summary/Abstract: In Bulgaria, the mutual schools received an entirely national image and became reli¬able organs of the modern Bulgarian educational movement, which had the task of fighting for better education in the common cause of the national liberation struggle. They were founded and supported by the Bulgarian municipalities and guild organizations, as there was no Bulgarian state system and relevant institutions for their management. The main funds were raised through voluntary donations or from monetary amounts determined as a tax by the municipal boards. Additional funds came from the income of various school properties – mills, tepavitsi, gardens and others, bequeathed or purchased. With all this in the 30s of the XIX century marked a new stage in the educational development of the Bulgarian people. Naturally, it should be noted that the preconditions for educational renewal and the changes in education have already taken place. It should be pointed out here that the Re¬vival development – its socio-economic results confront us with unsuspected socio-cultural phenomena. For example, not in all urban areas are early organized mutual schools, their mass creation is carried out, while in others – are relatively later introduced mutual learning, rapid learning is achieved through useful secular science. In the cultural empowerment of the Bulgarian people, in our national Revival, the mutual schools are naturally the first real centers of our educational awakening, of the national consciousness. And of course, they are not cell schools or similar (although cells also have their historical merit) that some people would think of them, based on the knowledge of the name of the longest-running type of school from the time of the five-century yoke. The mutual school is a qualitatively new stage in the development of the native school and education, marked by the opening of the Gabrovo school in 1835. The purpose, tasks and essence of the massly organized mutual schools speak about the reviving influence of the new education, about the transforming role of the new more progressive educational period.
